Praia Grande

Situated on the eastern shores of the mouth of the River Arade is the wide sandy stretch of Praia Grande. Translated as "big beach," it is the largest of the riverside beaches in Ferragudo, with Praia da Angrinha located to the left of the fort and Praia Grande to the right.

At the north end of the beach is a small cliff with the 16th-century fort of São João do Arade, originally built to protect the coastline from pirate attacks, and now a private residence. This location adds a historical charm to the beach.

Praia Grande is Ferragudo's main beach and as such has plenty of facilities such as cafes and shops. However, due to its popularity, the beach can become busy during the summer months, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a prime spot to soak up the sun.
