Beaches in Albufeira
Albufeira has a multitude of beaches to choose from starting from Falesia beach on the East to Salgados beach on the West.
Falesia beach is located between Vilamoura and Albufeira alongside the small resort of Acoteias. This stunning beach backed by high terracotta cliffs providing breathtaking cliff top walks is accessed via a quite steep hill and set of steps, but when you arrive at the beach there is plenty of space for everyone.
Sunbeds and parasols are available to hire and life guards on duty during the high season. There is a snack bar at the top of the stairs and the Sheraton hotel has a beach restaurant along the beach.
Olhos D'Agua beach
Olhos D'Agua beach or "eyes of water" as it translates is a small popular beach which almost dissappears with the high tide.
As the tide goes out the children will be enchated by the numerous rock pools and amazed if you are lucky enough to locate the "Eyes" the beach is named after which are formed by fesh water springs in and around the beach.
There is a multistorey car park near the beach in the resort centre and a larger free car park at the resort entrance. There are sunbeds and parasols to rent and a couple of beach restaurants plus the resort facilities which are right on the beach front.
In the height of the season you are bound to notice the local celebrity, who has been on Portuguese TV selling his Bolo Berlim cakes (doughnuts) on the beach, and putting a smile on everyones face.
Maria Louisa beach
The next beach along the coast from Olhos D'Agua to Albufeira is located down a small road which takes you to the lovely Maria Louisa beach. a crescent of golden sand backed by terracotta cliffs. Maria Louisa is a gentle beach, less developed and congested than some of the other beaches of Albufeira.
Santa Eulalia beach
A very popular beach due to its easy access and Blue flag status. There is a good size car park right on the beach, but it does tend to get full quite quickly, another over spill car park is available further up the hill from the beach.
Sunbeds and parasols are available to rent and there is one beach restaurant on the beach and a further couple just off the beach overlooking the ocean and offering fantastic views, plus a small shop.
Praia da Oura
Located at the bottom of the strip down quite a steep slope is the "Golden beach" or Praia da Oura, which gives name to this lively part of Albufeira.
It is a small bay with sunbeds and parasols to hire and water sports, as well as quite a few restaurants and snack bars to choose from. There are toilets and showers. Parking is limited, this beach is probably more often frequented by people staying in nearby accommodation who walk down.
Praia dos Pescadores
Located in the old town of Albufeira, and named after the fisherman who used to work from here. Praia dos Pescadores unfortunately is not used so much now by the fisherman and has therefore lost some of its charm.
The beach however is very well kept with lots of facilities and a popular choice for the many people staying in this area.
Many restaurants and cafes are located by the beach and water sports operate from here during the summer months. There are toilets and showers. There is a large multi storey car park up on the cliffs overlooking the beach and a double escalator taking you down to beach level.
Sao Rafael beach
Just outside of Albufeira, heading West is Sao Rafael Beach. Sao Rafael is blessed with golden sand and surrounded by some spectacular limestone rock formations. See if you can spot the "Small Bridge" or the "Swallow's Nest" formed by years of erosion.
There is a small area for parking followed by a short walk down a gentle slope to the beach. This Blue flag beach has several facilities including a restaurant, showers, toilets and sunbeds and parasols for hire.
Coelha beach is a small beach set in between golden cliffs, which shelter it from the wind. The size of this beach means it does get crowded in the high season.

Gale beach is located to the west of Albufeira and runs round the Bay of Armação de Pera to the town, providing a fantastic beach walk between resorts.
A beautiful long stretch of Blue flag beach with some stunning rock formations to the east, great for exploring at low tide.
There is a small carpark on the road down the beach and limited spaces right next to the beach. Several beach restaurants offer snacks and main meals, there are toilet and shower facilities as well as sunbeds and parasols for hire.
Salgados beach is found on the Eastern side of the beautiful Salgados lake and nature reserve. and access to the beach has been left in its natural state with stunning sand dunes and vegetation.
This long stretch of beach has several calm spots where you can get a piece of paradise to yourself for the day.
There is a big car park if entering through the new Salgados resort and smaller car parks offering access further along the beach from the Vale de Parra road.
