Quality Holiday Homes in the Western Algarve
Ferragudo is a picturesque fishing village located on a hillside at the mouth of the River Arade. There is always plenty of activity on the estuary, with boats and yachts travelling to and from the Port and marina of the nearby large town of Portimao and resort Praia da Rocha located on the opposite side of the river. The smaller fishing boats are moored up in the village harbour and haul in their fresh catch of the day to be served in the local restaurants located along the characterful harbour and in the small village square. The village climbs up the hillside scattered with traditional whitewashed houses, many of which were originally for the fishermen, and you get a real feel of being in the traditional, unspoilt Algarve.
There are some fabulous beaches with calm waters, the largest being the Praia Grande, which adjoins the smaller Praia de Angrinha, where the historical lookout tower and forte "Castelo de Sao Joao de Arade" dating back to the 15th century is located, positioned to protect the mouth of the river, which in later years became the home of the Portuguese writer and poet, Joaquim Jose Coelho de Carvalho.
Praia da Luz is a small, quieter resort on the Algarves western coastline. This charming town, which is a popular choice for families was formerly a fishing village, but now the locals welcome you to enjoy their wide choice of family run restaurants and beautiful beach.
Benagil is a small fishing village on the southern coast of the Algarve which has gained fame in recent years famous for the incredible sea cave located just around the corner from the beach. However, there is much more than just a cave to explore in this small village. It is a beautiful place to explore the unspoiled coastline with its beautiful cliffs and a choice of local restaurants.
